Kommen und Gehen. The fluent transition between delineation and openness. Surya Gied works with the principle of spatial division and explores its different functions, forms, colours and transformations. Her large-scale work made of drawings explores how physical and mental spaces can be divided from each other and how they can be brought together. She focuses on the desire for a room of one’s own, without loosing contact to other people (»being nearby«). In her transparent installation, that connects and divides inside and outside at the same time, the deep-seated desire or otherwise the Utopian ideal to share spaces in harmony with others, turns into the question of the moment when the private becomes public and the public becomes private. Gied’s work focuses on the visible and invisible structures of abstracted forms and fragments of space and architecture within the everyday life of society, in all its banality and poetry.
